2019 Ignite TransAm Vet Classic | Race Report

The 2019 Ignite TransAm Vet Classic was one for the books, as hundreds of vet racers converged at the legendary Glen Helen Raceway for a weekend of racing and good times. As this years event approached, we got together with Glen Helen’s track crew and designed an exciting course layout exclusive to the Ignite Vet Classic, and there is no question that it was a hit amongst racers. Ignite CBD was on hand to help out the exhausted racers, Ogio hosted a party in the barn for racers camped at the facility, and our other supporters gave vendor row it’s liveliness. Thanks to our amazing sponsors, beautiful weather, and a thrilling track layout; the 2019 Ignite TransAm Vet Classic was one memorable event.

Saturday’s racing started off with the stacked 30+ Pro class, which held some of the most exciting moments of the event. After nearly 13-year’s since he last lined up for a motocross race, Josh Hansen decided to end his drought of racing and come do battle amongst the vets. Though, Josh had to deal with Jeff Loop, Kris Keefer, and the rest of the class before he could claim his first vet class win. With a fresh track ahead, Hanny set out to put down some of the fastest laps the one-time track layout would see. However, a mistake from Hansen in the second moto would allow Jeff Loop by, and despite a hard charge from Hansen, Loop snagged the moto win and took the class victory. Yes, there were battles...but nothing other than smiles followed the waving of the checkered flag.

One of the unique factors of the Vet Classic is the Clydesdale class. The specifications? Weigh over 225-pounds and bring a bike to the line. At the 2019 Ignite TransAm, the Clydesdale class ended up being one of the largest classes...literally. Jokes aside, all eyes were watching when the class hit the track, as it held many exciting moments. After dominating the first two motos in the class, Jeff Fine seemed to be the guy to beat as they headed into the third and final moto. However, with a dozen donuts on the line; you should never count anyone in the Clydesdale class out. When it came time for the third moto, Steve Piattoni held it wide-open and grabbed the win. Unfortunately, Steve’s fourth and seventh place finishes would hinder his hopes at an overall podium. When the dust settled, Jeff Fine came out on top in overall standings, followed by Brad Dawson and our very own Dominic Gaytan. The three left the facility with trophies and bragging rights, but more importantly...a box of a dozen delicious donuts.

As for dominating performances at the Ignite TransAm Vet Classic, Kyle Zirkus lined up in both the 25+ Novice and 25+ Open (Beg/Amt/Novice) classes. Racing two separate classes might not be anything too challenging at one of our traditional Swapmoto Race Series event’s, but those four races then turn into six lengthly motos at our three-day Vet Classic. Though, Kyle managed to hold it together throughout the weekend and take the win in each of his six tedious races. After sweeping both the 25+ Novice and 25+ Open classes, it’s hard to deny Kyle’s dominance amongst his competition.
