For the first time in a few years, I spent my entire day at a Monster Energy Supercross race shooting on the floor. With our prior publication, my Saturday obligations were split between the pits, track, and press box to keep all channels full of content, but I took advantage of the “lighter” workload we have for the moment and stayed in the pits or trackside at the Atlanta round. Late last year I made the switch to Sony’s mirrorless camera setup and have to say that the A9’s ease of use and its image quality has made photos much more fun. I have always enjoyed photography, but sort of viewed it as a much-need thing to complete my skills for covering races and not a passion the way I view writing stories. I’ll be back by the track this weekend in Daytona and have high hopes to capture the daytime portion of the event in a style similar to what swap, Simon, Garth, and the rest of the early 2000s shooters put out.
